Day 12: Jasper Part III
Rain, Rain, Rain
The rain continued during the night, same as the night before. But we stayed dry in the tent, so it could be worse ;-)
In the morning we got up around 08:00 and there was no rain, so we used the rain free slot and got up. Short breakfast and we made our way to Jasper.
Laundry
First thing on the list is the Laundry, so we went to the SnowDome which is not only a coin laundry but also a Coffee. This provided a great opportunity to have some hot drinks while we waited for our laundry to be done. We payed 5CAD for the laundry and 2CAD for the drying.
I also used the time to upload the blog entry from yesterday.
Farmers Market
In the laundry we saw an ad for the weekly farmers market, which is every Wednesday, what a coincidence. So we decided to check it out, as it was only a 5 minute walk from the laundry.
There were multiple distilleries that sold their stuff, also different craft shops that sold handbags and other things. We bought some fresh apples and dried apple with cinnamon. No booze for us today :)
Pyramid Lake
Then it was time for some activity and the playground for the day was the pyramid lake area, which consists of different trails that can be stitched together in various ways.
We started at P6 and did #2, #16, #2i, #2h (to the west), #2b (to the south east), #2j and then #2g back to the P6 parking. This was around 10 km and had some easy climbing in the middle part (#2b). But the views we got from the top were nice and provided some great views of the mountains around Jasper.
The trail itself was beautiful, green forests and sometimes a view of the mountains in the back. The whole time it was cloudy but no rain, so we were lucky again!
Athabasca Falls
We then decided to go and view the Athabasca Falls, which are quite famous in the Jasper area and for that reason there were a lot of people. But the Fall itself was worth it.
A bit further down we could also see the river after the Fall, which is calm & wide, no sign of the wild Fall.
Last night at the campground
Then we went back to the campground and tried to make a fire in the furnace again, which was quite a challenge because everything was wet… It took us a while but in the end we pulled it off and had a nice fire which provided heat.
We cooked some Tim Hortons Can food on top (Mediterranean lentils) which took a bit longer than expected, but it was good for Can food.
The weather even got a bit better during the evening, and we had no rain so far on the campground. So we hope it stays like that.
Tomorrow we are then moving to Banff NP and stay first at the Lake Louis Campground.
