Day 13: Icefields Parkway

Icefields Parkway

The Icefields Parkway is one of the most beautiful roads in the world and connect Jasper and Banff National Park. Its a 200 km+ drive through forests, surrounded by Mountains.

Sunwapta Falls

This was our first stop on the way, another set of Falls, this time in the Sunwapta River.

Peyto Lake

This is a quite famous view from the Bow summit, it’s a short walk (around 600m) to the viewpoint. But as it’s famous, there were endless people and everything was crowded. Still, the view is amazing.

Bow Lake

Bow Lake is a bit further down after the Bow Summit and we got lucky was there weren’t many people there. It was partially covered in Ice and provided a spectacular view.

Lake Louise and the Weather

When we arrived in Lake Louise, the weather got a bit better and we even had some sun. Beside of that it was cloudy and rainy the whole day. So after we checked in at the campground and set our Tent, we decided to use the fact of the better weather to go for a run. There is a nice trail along the bow river and even though that some parts of it are closed during summer, it was nice for a run.

After we were back we went for a shower, but as we stepped out of the shower the rain was back. This was frustrating as we already hoped for a fire at our camp side… So we went to the shared room, but the furnace here wasn’t really useable as parts were missing. We cooked a quick dinner with our camping gas burner (hot water for dried meals) and then decided to do the best thing we could in the current situation, go to a Pub :)

So we went to the Outpost Pub, which was nearby (but we drove, thanks to the rain). And had a drink there, inside, dry and not cold!

Some thoughts were spent on “should we get a hotel room?”, but in the end we decided to stay with the tent (and the rain). Now I’m sitting in the tent and writing the current post. It’s not too cold and the rain stopped for now, so the night should be good.

Good Night!

PS: Sometimes I sound too negative, I really enjoy being out here and having the time to experience and see all the things we are seeing!
