Day 27: Back to Nature

Run

Another City run, we headed for Boise River, which has a really nice walking, biking & running trail along it. Only the way to the trail start took a bit time because we had to cross multiple stop lights.

Let’s Go

First stop was a T-Mobile store, because we decided to get us a US SIM, mainly for the data option. We went with a prepaid SIM, all included and payed a bit over 70$ for that. Should be good for 1 month, so let’s see if it’s worth it in the end.

Then it was time for the drive, we left Boise behind and headed direction Yellowstone. This was mostly bare land and not too much to see. But still, it has somehow it’s own charm and we enjoy these drive days.

Not too much happened until Yellowstone, we made a quick stop at a Burger King and refilled on food at Walmart. Find of the day at Walmart was 10lb (~5kg of minced beef…)

Before we entered Yellowstone, nature began to change. We gained some elevation and the forest were back. At the gate was a lady that enforced the ALS (Alternating License Plate System) because currently only the south loop is open and they make sure that not too many cars enter the park. So today only cars with a License Plate that ended with an even number are allowed and tomorrow the ones with an odd number. But as we had a reservation for the campground inside of the park we were allowed to enter the park anyway.

Yellowstone

As the drive took over 7 hours, it was already late and we entered the park after 19:00. So the plan was to go straight to the campground (another 1:15h drive) and then check out the park itself tomorrow.

On our way through the park we saw that the paint pots are currently active, so we decided to stop there quickly.

The geysers are really impressive and their unpredictable behavior is fascinating, so we just stood there and watched the spectacles of nature. For whatever reason we picked the wrong spot and got quite wet from one of the more powerful outlets of the geyser. The water was warm but thankfully not too hot…

At the campground we then setup tent and had some can dinner.

We have a lake directly beneath our site, so we did the 10 steps and checked the view out, which proved to be beautiful.

The mix between nature and city is nice and we look forward to the next days in Yellowstone and Grand Teton.
