Day 28: Yellowstone
Yellowstone
As currently only the south loop is open in Yellowstone, it was clear what the plan was for today. As the old faithful can get pretty crowded, we decided to start clockwise and head there first.
Old Faithful
When we arrived it was already getting crowded, but the whole area around old faithful is pretty big, so there was still space to walk around ;-)
Signs informed us that the next eruption is roughly 30 minutes after we arrived, so we checked out the whole area and then made our way to the geyser itself. On the way we then had a nice surprise, a Bison was pretty close to the area and we got some great views.
He then continued to walk over the whole area, felt a bit surreal. But he couldn’t be bothered and a park ranger made sure that people keep enough distance.
Then it was already time for Old Faithful himself, was really impressive to see, but hard to do justice on a picture.
After the “show” we decided to hike a bit around in the area, which is covered in smaller geysers, hot pots and so on.
The hike itself was rather short, but did a little climb to an outlook point.
Grand Prismatic
This is one of the bigger pools with some incredible colors.
Bison’s
It was really impressive the amount of Bison’s we saw during our driving in the park, they were next to the street, in some of the meadows and we found a particular large herd (~ 100) on the fountain flats. To see them here in freedom, was just beautiful.
Summary
Yellowstone is really beautiful and I let the pictures speak for the park. We didn’t had the chance to check out some of the great hikes that are available and just focused on the Geysers and other highlights.
Just realized that this concludes week 4… 8 to go!
