Day 47: Mammoth Lakes

Good Morning

I slept really good in the tent and I got up around 08:30, Nicole a bit earlier. The weather is just perfect for camping, we got cold enough nights to sleep tight but in the morning it’s already getting warm so we could enjoy the first sun. Finally I have coffee available as well, this is a game changer ;-)

Hiking

After the long day, we looked forward to a more relaxed one. So our decision fell for a ~10 km hike around Lake Mary. We started around 10:30 from the parking at the top of Twin Lakes. There is a really good network of bike & hike trail. So we stayed on the paved Trail for quite a bit, first along Twink Lakes, then the road that lead to Lake Mary. Around Lake Mary is only the street and no dedication hike/bike trail, but for some parts we could hike along the Lake.

We did a short lunch break at the Lake and got greeted by some ducks.

The last part was then a unpaved single trail and by far the most beautiful part of the hike.

Standup Paddle

After the hiking we did an hour of Standup Paddling on the Twin Lakes, this was a lot of fun. At first we were really unsafe on the boards, feared that we will fall into the water. But as time passed, we got the board better and better under control and cruised around on the Lake. The wind sometimes was blowing strong, which made it harder to stay on course. But the additional challenge made it also more fun.

Rest of the day

Then it was time to wash again, so we did that and I already started with the daily blog post. After that we went back to the Campground, were we first had beers and then dinner (Thai style soup)
