Day 6: Day in the car
Run
Another short run around Lost Lake, good start into the day.
Plan for today
We leave Whistler and travel all the way to Wells Gray Provincial Park. Google told us that it’s around 448km and should take us 5:30h. In the Wells Gray park we plan then to stay until Sunday (the next 3 nights)
Joffre Lakes
Joffre Lakes are a famous attraction near Pemberton (around 30 minutes north of Whistler) and are around a one hour drive from Whistler. There are a total of 3 lakes, located on different elevations. The first is on the same elevation as the trail head, the second is roughly +300m and the third another +100m.
To not only sit in the car the whole day, we decided to do a quick hike up to the upper lake and then back down.
When we started the hike, the weather was cloudy but no rain so far. The first part of the trail leads in a valley around the lower lake. There was still some snow and we were unsure how the trail looks at the middle and upper lake, but there is only one way to find out! :)
But soon after the ascend started, the snow was gone. It was a bit muddy, but easy doable overall. Beside of one steeper segment, the hike was not to strenuous and a nice activity on a day in the car.
Large parts of the upper lake where still covered in ice and it got really cold, so we just did a short break and then started with the descend.
Driving
After the hike, the real drive started (we only covered 1/6h so far), but as the weather got worse, it wasn’t to bad to sit in a dry & warm car.
During the drive we realized once more, how endless the forests of Canada are, it just goes on and on and on for hours. There is sometimes a really small settlement, but beside of that, just forests.
We also spotted two Bears during the drive, but just saw them quickly from the car. Hopefully we have a better opportunity to see them in more detail.
Dinner & Pension
For dinner we did a stop at the High Five Diner, the Burgers were amazing, but a bit too much for us. We even got us some Milk Shakes for the real Diner feeling.
After the Dinner it was time for the last 40 minute drive to our Pension for the next 3 nights, the Blue Grouse Country Inn.
Driving statistic
It took us 06:02h and 444.4km to reach Blue Grouse Country Inn from Whistler via Kamloops.
