Day 3: Cocora Valley

Cocora Valley

We decided to start early and leave our apartment around 6. This was an excellent idea! To reach Cocora Valley from Salento, Jeeps take you directly from Salento to Cocora, which is around a 20-minute drive.

We were on one of the first Jeeps that left Salento, but they overfilled them, so up to 3 people stood on the ledge at the back of the Jeep… And we were the lucky winners to hold onto the Jeep for 20 Minutes in the Rain.

But in hindsight, it was a funny experience, way more intense than to sit inside of it :)

Thanks to our early start, there were no other people at the beginning of the trail, so off we went.

Cocora Valley is famous for its palms, which provide spectacular views, especially with fog.

The first stretch of the hike was along the valley, and there were palms to be seen on all the surrounding hills. It was really cool!

Then, the trail moved into the forest, and with that, the views of palms were over. But the rainforest was impressive, and the trail started to climb up and up. We made it to multiple viewpoints, but we couldn’t see much as the fog was still present.

This was already the trail’s last part, and we saw more and more people. At the trailhead, it was crowded like crazy, and we were pleased to have left early in the morning.
