Day 5: Medellín

Medellín

Another day that starts with a run; I love to do that to explore the city. We found a good route along Carrera 43a. Other people were running there (even some locals), which gave us the feeling that it was pretty safe.

After that, we headed to the center. Our stop with the Uber was “Parque de Bolívar.” During the ride, we realized this was another Colombia than we had experienced. A lot of homeless camps, people sleeping/living in the parks and along the street. This felt like the Colombia that many people have in their heads.

After we left the Uber, some people started begging, and the feeling was completely different from El Poblado. But it was good to see this side of Medellín as well.

We paid a short visit to the Catedral Metropolitana de Medellín and then headed to the Plaza Botero. There is an art installation by the famous local artist Fernando Botero.

From there, we passed the “Iglesia De La Veracruz” on our way to the shopping mall “Centro Comercial Palacio Nacional.” Which isn’t a classic Western-style shopping mall. The building consists of many small stalls with all kinds of stores. A lot of fake product stores made up most of them.

We walked until the “Parque de las Luces” and then took another Uber to the Laureles district. Which is comparable to El Poblado. It is cleaner and feels safer. There, we had a break in the Pergamino Caffee.

Then, it was time to return to the apartment, where we had a quick break before heading out for Silvester.

Happy New Year!
