Day 12: Galapagos
Let’s go!
Damn, 04:30 is early! But we made it and took the 05:00 shuttle from the Airport Hotel to the Airport, which was just a 5-minute drive. Even after so many years of traveling, I find scheduling my time properly at the Airport hard. As we only travel with carry-on luggage, we only need to clear security (no check-in/baggage drop), so only a little time is required. But still, we want to make sure to take advantage of every flight to sleep 30 minutes more.
But yeah, in the end, we waited close to 2 hours before boarding our first flight. The flight itself took 1:30 hours, which went by fast. Then we nearly missed the Galapagos check-in in Guayaquil, where we had to get our Travel Card. After that, it was ~3 hours of waiting before our flight to San Cristobal left.
After another 1:30-hour flight, we finally made it to the Galapagos! There, we had to pay the national park entrance fee (100$/person), a quick scan of our luggage, and then we sat in a Taxi to the Hotel. It was just a 5-minute ride and cost us 4$.
It was shortly after 15:00 when we arrived at the Hotel (but we also lost another hour, so 16:00 on the Mainland), and we decided to check out the center of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. The place is tiny, so after just a couple hundred steps, we made it to the waterfront, and there we saw the first glimpse of why the Galapagos is so famous. Everything was full of sea lions, to an extent I never imagined. Some of them even just chilled on the street.
This experience sparked excitement for the coming days and the cruise.
