Today’s main visit was Vardzia, a cave monastery which hosted up to 5,000 people at its peak. Even to this day some people live there, but most of the caves can be visited. Which was super interesting to climb through all these caves and imagine how life must have been for the people that once lived here.

To reach Vardzia, we first had to leave the plateau and climb down into the valley. The track was super rocky and bumpy and we were once again thankful for the high clearance and 4x4 of Sprinty. In the middle of the way down Sandro’s roof tent got loose and we had to retighten it, it was a bit of a scary experience…

In the evening, after the visit of Vardzia we met Die Knoblauchs whom we followed for quite a while on Instagram, because they also did a Central Asia tour this summer.
